Dutch Bossche School Cabinet in Black Stained Pine

Sale price$11,700.00

Dutch cabinet, pine, metal, The Netherlands, 1970s

This striking cabinet originates from The Netherlands. Its cubic appearance is emphasized by the dark colored wood. Vertically arranged slats in pine structure the cabinet in a rhythmic way. A pattern of closely arranged nail heads functions both as constructive as well as decorative detail. Two doors of the same size access the black inside with shelves and a drawer. The designer created this cabinet with strong visual qualities that contribute to an almost monumental look.

Overall, the cabinet has a reminiscence of Dom Hans van der Laan and the Bossche School. Both van der Laan as the Bossche School movement strived towards sober designs. Their architecture as well as designs were strongly based on numerical relationships such as the ‘plastic number’. The characteristics of these styles are also visible in this brutalist cabinet.

Please note that the item is in good, used condition. At some spots the wood is slightly chipped. Restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftsman in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come.
