Sale price$22,000.00

Angelo Mangiarotti for Sorgente dei Mobili, sideboard, mahogany, grasscloth, Italy, 1960s

This outstanding cabinet, dating back to the 1960s, is a design by Angelo Mangiarotti produced for Sorgente dei Mobili. An rectangular layout comprised of four identical sections, imbues the piece with a harmonic and balanced appearance. Each panel is skilfully carved, showing fine lines and clear angular shapes. In addition, each square contains a grasscloth front, which imparts the piece with an organic allure. A defining feature are the quirky, carved legs with rounded contours that are small compared to the substantial size of the body, creating a visually striking counterbalance. One can hide its personal belongings by situating them behind closed doors, or alternatively, make use of the concealed drawers atop. All in all, this credenza reflects the design principles of the Mid-Century era that rose to prominence in the 1950s and 1960s in Italy.

Angelo Mangiarotti (1921-2012) was an Italian architect and Industrial designer with a reputation to mainly focus on the needs of the users of furniture. His designs are solid and strong and he always used materials that would stand the test of time. Being schooled as an architect, Mangiarotti was very precise in using the right materials and the right sizing for his designs.

The mahogany type of this piece does not require an export license.
